Bass have steadily become the most popular freshwater sport fish in the United States. Their popularity has increased due in part to the rise of the bass fishing tournament industry which helps sell recreational fishing products and instructs other fishermen on how to catch bass. The pikes are notoriously voracious carnivores and can be potential pests when introduced into alien ecosystems. They are prized as gamefish for their determined fighting and have been food fish since ancient times. (See Fishing for pike.)
The walleye is often considered to have the best tasting flesh of any freshwater fish, and as such is fished recreationally and commercially. Because of its nocturnal feeding habits it is most easily caught at night using live minnows, or lures that mimic small fishes. See Fishing for Walleye
Found in cold, clear lakes and large rivers, muskellunge closely resemble the northern pike in both appearance and behaviour. Like the pike, their bodies are elongate with flat heads and dorsal, pelvic and anal fins set far back of the head.
This is the classic lie-in-wait or ambush predator body plan: Muskellunge lurk among the weeds and floating plants where they wait for an opportune moment to strike. Fishing for Muskie
The best place for fishing striped bass is the quietest place you can find, and at full neap tide. When this tide occurs early in the morning, or late in the afternoon, and if the wind is off shore and a gentle ripple on the water you may take bass very easily, and in abundance. In rivers, get in the exact channel, or over some deep cove, near an outlet of a brook, or some small stream. Fishing for Striped Bass
